Washington Grade Center is a 3rd and 4th grade center that serves approximately 400 students. Washington has a certified staff of 26, in addition to numerous support staff, all dedicated to making learning a priority. Our school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Class schedules allow our students to experience team teaching with one teacher teaching reading/language arts and social studies and their partner teaching math and science. Each week students also have the opportunity to participate in P.E., library, music and art, and computer. We offer after-school tutoring two days a week and also provide opportunities for students to extend learning through our after-school science clubs and Bot-ball Jr. teams.

At Washington, our teachers work together as a professional learning community (PLC), a structure designed to help teachers collaborate to develop curriculum and assessments in response to the specific needs of their students. In this context, assessments are not a part of a high-stakes, one-size-fits-all paradigm, but are used to identify the instructional needs of individual students. This data-driven approach helps our teachers decide when to reteach, when to reinforce, and when to introduce new material. Our professional learning communities provides both the tools and the support for teachers to translate the relationships they've built with students into individualized instruction and ultimately, the end result of learning more.

We are proud to be a Leader in Me school. Leader in Me (LIM) is an evidence-based, comprehensive school improvement model - developed in partnership with educators - that empowers students with the leadership and life-skills they need to thrive in the 21st century. Through this program, we are helping students build the behavior, mindsets and skills necessary to be lifelong leaders!

Our goal is to create an environment that challenges young minds, fosters a commitment to learning, and, prepares students to leave our school as confident leaders prepared to succeed at the next level. We look forward to seeing your child at Washington!
